Cannot Determine File System of Drive

Question:

During boot time I see the following error message "Cannot Determine File System of Drive \??\volume{...}. Windows has finished checking the disk.", how I can resolve the issue?

Answer:

This error message has been observed on Vista. It is telling you that Autochk is unable to find a disk. This could possibly be related to a USB drive that is not longer plugged in.

You can fix this problem by using the Microsoft AutoRuns utility:

After downlading and unzipping, start the the utility, go to the "Boot Execute" tab, and uncheck "autocheck autochk /r \??\ ... ". The entry you're looking for will most likely stand out to you as an invalid hard drive.
