How To Find Cheap Hard Drives

Cheap hard drives. What do you think of first when you  hear that? Maybe you associate that term with low quality hard drives that  stripped your wallet. Low price does not have to mean low quality. But caution should be exercised in shopping for your ideal internal or external hard drive, used or new.

Tips for the smart hard drive shopper:

  • Beware of refurbished hard drives. They are always cheaper than new ones, and you end up with a drive that has less life left, sometimes much less. As an undeniable rule, hard drives have a limited lifetime and when you buy them used they have less life left. You cannot be too careful when buying a refurbished hard drive.

  • Warranties are your friend. Many new hard drives, cheap hard drives included, come with a 2, 3 or 5 year warranty. It will guarantee a free replacement if it fails, but no hard drive company will replace your data, so be sure you have a reliable backup.

  • What do other customers think? Reading customer reviews on the product you are considering purchasing will help you outline what you are looking for in a hard drive and whether that one will suit your needs.

  • Be knowledgeable. Keep on top of the current prices and know  what your favorite hard drives are currently selling for. Learn about the manufacturers and keep track of the current market.

  • Don't be afraid to look around. It is not hard to find quality, new hard drives, especially internal, for under $150.

Some deals to consider:
Both amazon.com and tigerdirect.com icon are excellent places to purchase both internal and external new and used cheap hard drives.

Let's look at some:

At amazon.com is where I found one of my favorite deals, a Western Digital Caviar internal drive for a little over $100. If you are a fan of Western Digital then this may just be the right hard drive for you. The WD Caviar WD5000KSRTL internal SATA hard drive sports a whopping 500 GB of storage and minimized noise for both home and business environments. Gamers will revel in the speed produced by the 16 MB cache and the 300 MB/s transfer  rate of this drive.

The Iomega Desktop external hard drive was another great deal which I found on amazon.com. Welcome, all photo storage enthusiasts! This amazing hard drive, for a little over $100 has 500 GB of storage to hold up to 2,000,000 photos! Amazing but true! And not only that either but if you prefer music it will hold up to 9,250 hours of music! And, video watchers, it will hold up to 750 hours of your favorite movies. A spindle speed of 7200 RPM and an 8 MB cache buffer both contribute to this drive's amazing speeds. This drive can be used with PCs or Macs for universal usability and is backed by a 1-year warranty!

The Fujitsu Mobile MHV2120BH  internal hard drive is also available for slightly over $100. If you are not in need of extraordinary amounts of storage for photos or media it's 120 GB's of storage is perfect for everyday use. With a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) motor, higher shock tolerance, a 5400 rpm speed  and 3-year warranty this hard drive is perfect for just the standard home use.

I have given you just a small sampling of the cheap hard drives available on the market today. Whether you choose Western Digital, Iomega, Fujitsu or any other of the leading brands remember that cheap does not have to mean inferior quality. It should not be hard to find a hard drive from your favorite manufacturer for a price that will make you smile!
