Windows was Unable to Complete the Disk CheckQuestion: Chkdsk is giving me an error "Windows was unable to complete the disk check", what do I do? Answer: This is a general purpose error message and could indicate different kinds of problems. The only thing we know for sure is that Chkdsk encountered some sort of problem that it was unable to handle. The problem could be a logical corruption of the file system or it might even indicate a hardware problem with your hard disk drive. The most likely possibility for this error message is that Chkdsk could not access a file because the file is being used by another program. The solution for this problem is to run the 'CHKDSK /R' in a command window, and then reboot your system so that Chkdsk can have exclusive access to all files by running at startup. See the Chkdsk page for an alternative way of starting Autochk. Another option is run Chkdsk in Safe Mode. If that doesn't solve your problem, then you'll need a little stronger medicine than Chkdsk. Download the free TestDisk utility, read the instructions, and see if it can help you get to the bottom of this problem. Finally, if none of the above has solved the problem, then you'll need to get your Manufacturer's hard drive diagnostic. Return from Windows was Unable to Complete the Disk Check to Chkdsk |
